Peterhead Bay Harbour being the most easterly
deepwater port on the Scottish mainland, lies close to the major
oil and gas fields of the Northern and Central North Sea. This
favourable location has led to the harbour being host to a major
support base servicing the offshore oil and gas industry operating
in these areas.
The port provides a comprehensive range of
facilities to service the complete needs of the offshore oil
industry's activities, from exploration through construction
and hook-up to production. For as long as oil companies continue
exploration, development and production activities in the North
Sea and Atlantic regions, Peterhead is ideally placed, in terms
of location and established infrastructure, to meet their service
requirements.
A total of 17 berths across two purpose-built
oil support bases ensure that the harbour has the capacity to
handle the demands of the offshore oil industry, 24 hours a
day, every day of the year. Vessels do not suffer congestion
delays waiting to enter the port or berth. Convenient access
directly onto the A92 avoids all city related congestion for
vehicles.
A number of investments by both the Authority
and ASCO over recent years have focussed on improving the service
offered to oil clients by reducing turnaround times and extending
the working capabilities of the port.
