Port
Services
As a busy modern commercial port, a full range of vessel control
services are provided to users on a 24 hour per day basis.
Port Control
A vessel traffic advisory service is provided and radar
monitoring and recording of ship movements is carried out. All of Peterhead's VTS operators are qualified to V-103 standard. The service can be contacted on VHF Channel 14 or 16.
Pilotage
Pilotage in the port and approaches is carried out through
Peterhead Port Services - an organisation formed jointly by
Peterhead Bay Authority and Peterhead Harbour Trustees. A written
Pilotage Passage and Manoeuvring Plan is agreed between the
pilot and vessel master before any act of pilotage takes place.
A copy of the Pilotage Direction can be downloaded from the
'Downloads' section of this website.
Weather Forecasts
The Meteorological Office provides a twice daily forecast
tailored to harbour requirements that includes a four day projection
and 24 hr sea state prediction. Weather information can be obtained
from the Vessel Traffic Advisory Service, which also acts as
a weather monitoring station for the Meteorological Office.
Tides
Spring range: 3.3 metres.
Neap range: 1.6 metres.
Towage
Harbour towage can be arranged through shipping agents. A small harbour tug 'Ugie Runner' with 9t bollard pull is available on request. Additionally a small harbour workboat 'Flying Scud' is available to assist berthing. The pilot vessel 'Blue Toon' has pushing capability.
Weighbridge
A weighbridge is located at Merchants Quay behind the fish
market and another at Princess Royal Jetty. Both are operated
by fully qualified staff. These are available for cargo being
shipped through the port and other contract work. Sampling stations
for agricultural products are also available at Princess Royal
Jetty and Albert Quay.
