Peterhead is a regular port of call for subsea and diving support vessels.

The port has many advantages for this sector, including deepwater access and berths. Vessels do not have to wait for high tide to enter or leave the port. The port entrance is relatively straightforward, allowing vessels to be tied up at their berth within about an hour of arriving at the pilot station.

Wide quays offer plenty of space for marshalling vessel equipment and cargo in preparation for a port call. There is usually an opportunity to leave large or heavy items on the quayside, thus saving craneage and transport costs associated with double handling.

Albert Quay is frequently used for fabrication of spool pieces and other offshore equipment. Smith Quay has proven to be the preferred berth for most subsea projects. The site affords a large working area next to the sheltered heavy lift berth. Smith Quay, now complemented by Merchants’ Quay, which has been newly concreted following the demolition of the old fish market, allows Peterhead to handle much larger fabrication and mobilisation contracts than were previously possible and this has brought new clients, vessels and contracts to the port.
